World Conference on Drowning Prevention - Danang, Vietnam - 10 to 13 May 2011

The International Life Saving Federation is pleased to announce the World Conference on Drowning Prevention 2011 which will be held in Danang, Vietnam from Tuesday, 10 May to Friday 13 May 2011.

The World Conference on Drowning Prevention 2011 will be hosted by The Royal Life Saving Society Australia (RLSSA) with support from The Alliance for Safe Children.

Mr. Shayne Baker, RLSSA President, said of the World Conference on Drowning Prevention 2011:

“by conducting WCD 2011 in the Danang province of Vietnam, ILS will be taking the world to the heart of the drowning problem. Conducted in 5-star facilities but only minutes away from the rural, community at risk, WCD 2011 participants will experience firsthand the challenges of reducing drowning in the developing world”.

Vietnam is a country filled with captivating natural beauty and tranquil village life. With a population of over 85 million, Vietnam is the 13th most populous country in the world.

The country is listed among the "Next Eleven" economies; with a GDP growth of over 8%. International Visitors to Vietnam in 2007 reached over 4 million.

Danang is Vietnam’s third-largest city (population 747,100) situated in the central region between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Encircled with world cultural heritage sites in Hue and Hoi An (My Son), Danang serves as the economic hub between the north and the south.

The World Conference on Drowning Prevention 2011 will follow on from the success of the World Conference on Drowning Prevention 2007 (WWS2007) held in Matosinhos and Porto, Portugal in September 2007.
